Our village is served extremely well on the Main Road by the Co-op, Coffee Shop, Gift Shop, Hairdresser and a Health Spa, there is also a motor repair garage.
Sharrick's fish and chip shop next to the Ashiana Indian take-away is the hub of the village.
The three pubs also have restaurants, The Royal Oak in the Village centre, Whittakers at the North end of the Village and closest walk from Priory House is The Reindeer Inn. Booking is advisable and search their websites for opening times.
Newark is 6 miles north of Long Bennington on the A1 and on the East Coast Main Line railway from Kings Cross. It is a pretty market town on the River Trent with it's own castle and theatre. It has independent fashion boutiques, a lovely historic market square featuring the Town Hall and the Old Butter Market. The market days are Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Monday is the Flea market and Thursday the bric-a-brac day.
Waitrose, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi and Sainsbury’s are the main supermarkets. A tip for parking for the market – Morrisons car park.
A day out in Newark could comprise a peaceful trip on the river after visiting the ruined castle and tourist centre. There is a museum on Millgate and a variety of galleries.
There is an abundance of tea shops and bars, cafes and restaurants, all waiting to make you welcome. The Palace is a flourishing theatre with an exciting and diverse programme. www.palacenewark.com
Grantham is 7 miles to the south of Long Bennington and on the mainline railway from Kings Cross. It is also a market town on Saturdays, held around the Old Cross in Westgate. There is usually a farmers market. It has the usual range of national stores and the major supermarkets are Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s. Parking tip: Asda car park.
Lincoln, a Cathedral city and the County Town of Lincolnshire is only 20 miles away. Not to be missed. Aim for the cathedral and park in the cathedral car park. The movies the “Da Vinci Code” and “Elizabeth ” were both filmed in Lincoln Cathedral. We have some of the props! They are reproductions of tombs in Westminster Abbey, now in my fashion studio here at Priory House. See them when you come for your wedding dress consultation.
Steep Hill is the quaint winding street leading up to the Cathedral. Tea shops, boutiques and old inns mingle together offering an eclectic experience of old world antiquarian bookshops and antiques. The ice cream shop by the Cathedral always has a queue. Nearby is a stunning new museum called The Collections featuring local Roman history.
